Baseball Set for Alumni Weekend; Exhibition

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – This weekend, current and former West Virginia University baseball players will get together for the Alumni Baseball Reunion Weekend from Oct. 19-21. The weekend culminates in the 2013 squad taking on Potomac State College on Sunday afternoon.

Alumni who will be in attendance include current professional players Grant Buckner (Chicago White Sox), David Carpenter (Toronto Blue Jays) and Jedd Gyorko (San Diego Padres). Former All-Americans Mark Landers (1994) and Joe McNamee (1998) also will be in attendance.

The weekend begins with an open practice on Friday afternoon from 2 to 5 p.m. Following practice there will be a dinner reception at Keglers at 6 p.m., where coach Randy Mazey will address the alumni. The reception is open to families.

Saturday’s schedule includes the Varsity Club Pregame Tailgate at the Coca-Cola Hospitality Village beginning at 3 p.m., followed by the WVU-Kansas State football game scheduled for a 7 p.m. kickoff.

On Sunday, there will be an alumni game at Hawley Field, in which Mazey expects 40 alumni to participate, beginning at noon with all former players invited to come out at 10:30 a.m. for batting practice.

A fall game against Potomac State will then begin at 2 p.m., where the teams are expected to play 15 innings.

Sunday’s events are free and open to the public with available concessions throughout the day.
