WVU Baseball Defeats Alumni
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University baseball team defeated its Alumni, 4-2, on Saturday afternoon at Hawley Field.
The current squad finished with 14 hits, while the Alumni had eight hits and two errors.
Senior left fielder Jacob Rice
went 3-for-4 with two runs to lead WVU, while junior right fielder Trevor Simms batted 2-for-3 with one RBI. Senior first baseman Ryan McBroom
, junior shortstop Taylor Munden
and freshman first baseman Jackson Cramer added an RBI apiece.
Junior Harrison Musgrave
, junior Sean Carley
, sophomore Ross Vance, senior Joby Lapkowicz, sophomore Ryan Hostrander
and Simms all saw action on the mound for the Mountaineers. Carley struck out a game-high four batters.
Jedd Gyorko and Brady Wilson led the Alumni at the plate, batting a combined 5-for-8. Gyorko hit a home run to right center field.Wilson had three hits, including one triple, as well as an RBI. Adding one hit apiece were Grant Buckner, Jeremy Gum and Kevin Griffin.
Kevin Korzun, Andy Altemus, Dan Dierdorff, David Maust and Marty Fagler all saw time on the mound for the Alumni Korzun started the game and allowed just one hit in 2.0 innings.
