Mountaineers, Horned Frogs to Meet Thursday

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla.  – After coming from behind to knock off No. 3 seed Kansas on Wednesday at the 2014 Big 12 Baseball Championship in Oklahoma City, the No. 6 seed West Virginia University baseball team will face two-seed TCU on Thursday evening at 5 p.m., ET.
 
The Mountaineers (28-24) defeated Kansas (34-23), 10-9, after trailing 8-2 in the seventh inning. Freshman Jackson Cramer hit a 3-run home run (the first home run of his career) with two outs in the seventh inning and WVU trailing 8-7.
 
The No. 2 seed Horned Frogs (39-15) defeated No. 7 seed Baylor, 8-5, in first round action yesterday. TCU held an 8-0 advantage in the 8th inning, before having to hold off a late comeback attempt by the Bears.
 
TCU enters Thursday’s matchup with the Mountaineers having won 24 of its last 27 games overall.
 
The Horned Frogs lead the league in earned run average and have held an opponent to one run or less 29 times this season.
 
Leading the staff is Preston Morrison, who most recently was named the Big 12 Pitcher of the year. Morrison has allowed just five runs in 62.1 innings pitched this season.
 
The Horned Frogs swept the single season series between the two schools April 4-5 in Fort Worth.
 
TCU has four batters with an overage higher than .300, led by sophomore Boomer White with a team-leading .343 average and 71 hits.
West Virginia finished second in the conference in team batting average in the regular season. Bobby Boyd and Billy Fleming are leading the way offensively, ranking No. 1 and No. 2, respectively, in the Big 12.
 
Tonight’s game will be televised on Fox College Sports, while radio coverage can be heard on Mountaineer Sports Network from IMG College affiliates statewide.
