WVU in Two of Three Social Media Rankings

Jason Matheson, Oklahoma’s director of digital media, compiles a listing of the most popular Facebook, Twitter and YouTube sites among college sports programs and frequently posts them on Oklahoma’s official website SoonerSports.com.

Two of West Virginia University’s social media platforms are listed in Matheson’s latest top 25 rankings, dated Jan. 7.

West Virginia’s twitter site WVUsportsBuzz is ranked 22nd in the country with 27,855 followers and West Virginia’s official YouTube site (http://www.youtube.com/westvirginiau) is ranked 17th in subscribers with 3,635.

Also, the Mountaineers’ official Facebook page, Proud to Be a Mountaineer (http://www.facebook.com/wvumountaineers), falls just outside the top 25 with 185,333 likes as of this morning.

Minnesota’s official Facebook page checks in at 25th, according to Matheson’s rankings, with 186,986 likes.

The No. 1 college Facebook page in the country is Ohio State with 1.3 million likes, while Nebraska tops all twitter sites with 77,234 followers and Oregon has the most frequented YouTube page with 9,869 subscribers.

Texas is first among Big 12 schools in Facebook likes with more than 1 million while Oklahoma has the most twitter followers (52,633) and the most YouTube subscribers (4,610).
