Dear Mountaineer Fans:
I want to take this opportunity to thank and congratulate all Mountaineer fans for displaying first-class support and hospitality last Saturday during our inaugural Big 12 Conference game against Baylor.
The sight of Milan Puskar Stadium striped in gold and blue was awesome and certainly helped add to the special atmosphere. We appreciate your willingness to wear the assigned color of your section. Not only was it a success, but striping the stadium for this commemorative first game will never be forgotten.
I also want to commend all fans on showing our visitors from Baylor how great West Virginia hospitality truly is. Many phone calls, letters and emails have come in from Baylor fans on the hospitality they received and how beautiful our state and city are. This is the Mountaineer spirit of which we all should be proud.
Last Saturday proved that we can cheer on the Mountaineers and continue to make the stadium one of the toughest places to play in America, while still showing the class and hospitality that makes West Virginia fans and this state the best in the nation.
I know from speaking with Baylor President, Judge Kenneth Starr, and Athletic Director, Ian McCaw, that they enjoyed the great college football atmosphere and were quite appreciative of the hospitality their fans enjoyed. Big 12 Commissioner Bob Bowlsby also got to see first-hand how fired up our University is to be in the Big 12.
Let’s continue to welcome and greet our Big 12 visitors, and showcase West Virginia pride and hospitality, while showing our student-athletes the tremendous and raucous support they are accustomed to having. And remember, we only have one chance to make a good first impression.
