Four former Mountaineer football players will be participating in this year’s NFL Scouting Combine, taking place at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis this weekend.
Quarterback Geno Smith
, wide receivers Tavon Austin
and Stedman Bailey
, and center Joe Madsen
will workout for NFL executives during the weekend.
The NFL Network will provide live on-field coverage beginning on Saturday at 9 a.m. ET with the offensive linemen, tight ends and kickers. Coverage continues with running back, wide receiver and quarterback workouts on Sunday at 9 a.m. The combine will wrap up with final workouts on Monday.
Smith is one of four prospects taking part in the NFL Network’s “Draft Journey,” which will provide a behind-the-scenes look at how players have been preparing for their NFL futures. The other three prospects profiled will be USC quarterback Matt Barkley, South Carolina running back Marcus Lattimore and LSU defensive end Barkevious Mingo.
Features on all four players will air throughout NFL Network’s coverage of this year’s combine, as well as network coverage leading up to the 2013 NFL Draft in April.
Veteran NFL Network host Rich Eisen will anchor this year’s combine coverage with Mike Mayock and Charles Davis providing expert commentary, along with former NFL coaches Steve Mariucci and Brian Billick. A total of 24 different commentators will take part in this year’s NFL Network coverage.
West Virginia is looking to have at least four players in this year’s draft for the second time since 2011 when four players went that year. In 2012, three players were selected, including first-round pick Bruce Irvin of the Seattle Seahawks.
The Mountaineers have had at least one player selected each year since 2006.
