Mountaineer football is taking its show on the road this weekend.
West Virginia players and coaches will travel to Charleston, W.Va., for a Saturday afternoon practice at University of Charleston Stadium at Laidley Field.
Saturday’s workout is scheduled to get underway at 1 p.m. and will be open to the general public, free of charge. An autograph session with WVU players is scheduled afterward.
Earlier this spring, West Virginia traveled to Wheeling to conduct a Saturday afternoon practice at Wheeling Island Stadium before an estimated 2,000 spectators.
Traveling to Charleston for spring practices is not new to Mountaineer football. In the mid-1970s, coach Bobby Bowden used to bring his WVU teams down to the Capital City for spring workouts at Crawford Field in St. Albans and Oakes Field in South Charleston.
“We want all of Mountaineer Nation to be able to come and watch the Mountaineers and see what we’re putting out there and see what the product is,” said West Virginia coach Dana Holgorsen earlier this spring. “I think everyone is going to be pleasantly surprised with what the product is going to be.”
West Virginia has closed practices remaining on Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday in Morgantown before concluding spring drills with the annual Gold-Blue Game, presented by Kroger, on Saturday, April 12, at 1 p.m. Tickets are $10 and are available for purchase at the Coliseum ticket office, online at, or by calling 1-800-WVU GAME. WVU students will be admitted free with a valid ID.
Proceeds from the Gold-Blue Spring Game will once again benefit the West Virginia University Children’s Hospital.
