MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University gymnastics coach Jason Butts announced today that Brooklyn Doggette, Alexa Goldberg, Rachel Sine and Nicolette Swoboda have signed National Letters of Intent to compete at WVU next fall.

“This class is exceptional because every single one of these gymnasts can be an all-around contender for WVU,” says second-year coach Jason Butts. “This is one of the best overall classes that assistant coach Travis Doak has recruited. They complement our current team and each other.

“There is a lot of personality in this class. I’m looking forward to welcoming them all to Morgantown next August, and I’m excited that they are officially Mountaineers.”

Doggette, a native of Pickerington, Ohio, is a level 10 gymnast out of Buckeye Gymnastics. A two-time Junior Olympics national qualifier and a Region 5 National Team member, she finished second in the all-around at the 2009 and 2010 regional championships. She also finished third in the all-around at the 2010 state championships. Most recently, Doggette placed first on beam and second in the all-around at the CGA Coaches Spectacular, and third in the all-around at the Fiesta Bowl Invitational and the Buckeye Classic. She is the daughter of former Mountaineer defensive back Cecil Doggette (1990-91) and former Mountaineer gymnast Becky Morrison (1993-94).

“Brooklyn has Mountaineer blood running through her veins,” says Butts. “She will bring finesse and grace to the team. I believe her strong work ethic and dedication will allow her to compete her best gymnastics at WVU, and I’m excited to see her bars and beam routines.”

Goldberg, an Ivyland, Pa., native, is a level 10 gymnast out of Central Bucks Gym. A five-time Junior Olympics National Team qualifier, she finished fourth in the all-around at the 2012 Region 7 Championship. She won the bars title at the 2011 regional championships and finished second on the apparatus at the 2011 Junior Olympics National Championships and the 2011 state championships. Goldberg has finished in the top three in the all-around in six of her last seven meets, including second-place finishes at the 2011 and 2012 state championships.

“Alexa competes well under pressure, and I’m impressed that she has qualified for the Junior Olympics National Championships each year she has been eligible,” explains Butts. “Her consistency will help us in the Big 12 Conference. She doesn’t have a weak event, but her beam, bars and floor routines are particularly strong.”

A native of Bethlehem, Pa., Sine competed level 10 gymnastics at GIRLS CO-OP Gymnastics National Training Center. A Junior Olympics national qualifier, she finished third on bars at the 2011 Region 10 Championships. Additionally, she won the all-around and bars titles at the 2008 U.S. Challenge.

“Rachel has an elite look that can immediately impact the team on the Big 12 and national scene,” says Butts. “Her strengths are bars and beam, and she has a large array of skills on those events that will help her stand out.”

Swoboda, a native of Columbus, Ohio, most recently competed level 10 gymnastics at Gold Medal Gymnastics Center. A four-year level 10 Junior Olympics national qualifier, she finished 13th in the all-around at the 2012 national championships and 16th at the 2011 championships; she also finished 10th on floor in 2011. Swoboda won back-to-back (2011-12) bars titles at the Region 6 Championships in 2011 and 2012. She also finished second in the all-around in 2012 and third in 2011.

“Nicolette’s personality and showmanship, combined with her big gymnastics, will excite the Mountaineer crowd,” says Butts. “She is a consistent, hard worker and comes from a proven club program. She has the potential to compete all-around for us in the future.”
