MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University Department of Intercollegiate Athletics, the City of Morgantown and the West Virginia Department of Highways have agreed upon a plan that will allow temporary parking in certain areas of Monongahela Boulevard for WVU men’s basketball games and special events.
“I want to thank all the constituents who came together to approve this plan,” WVU Director of Athletics Oliver Luck said. “All were in agreement that public safety was paramount, and we believe this compromise keeps cars from parking in the heavy walkways, while still providing a parking choice to the fans that come to men’s basketball games and special events.”
The plan calls for parking still to be restricted from the WVU track entrance up to the WVU Core Arboretum on the Coliseum (West) side of Monongahela Boulevard. In addition, parking will be restricted from Evansdale Drive to Patteson Drive on the Creative Arts Center (East) side of the boulevard. Both restrictions prevent parking in the heavy pedestrian walkways entering the Coliseum.
Parking will continue to be allowed, as in the past, on certain sections of the East and West side of the boulevard. The “No Parking” signs in the permissible sections will be covered for WVU men’s basketball games and special events at the Coliseum. This plan will allow a temporary means of controlled parking along Mon Boulevard within proximity to the venue. All vehicles must be completely off the road and not impeding traffic, or they will be ticketed and/or towed.
As in years past, shuttles will continue to run from the Green Lot on Van Voorhis Road to the Coliseum for men’s basketball games, and the PRT will run an extended schedule.
Aside from WVU men’s basketball games and select special events, the new parking prohibition will remain in effect daily on Mon Boulevard.
