WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The West Virginia Mountaineers and IMG College announced today that LM Communications’ WMXE-FM in Charleston has signed on to the Mountaineer Sports Network from IMG.

The Classic Hits station will carry WVU football and men’s basketball, these sports’ respective Coach’s Shows, and the “Mountaineer Minute” daily report.

“I’ve always been a huge Mountaineers fan, and as radio station owner/operator for 32 years in Charleston, I’m absolutely thrilled to bring WVU sports to Mountaineer Nation over our signal,” said Lynn Martin, owner of WMXE-FM. “Broadcasting Mountaineer sports on our station from the state capital is a life-long dream come true.”

“We are very happy to welcome Lynn Martin and WMXE-FM in Charleston to the Mountaineer Sports Network,” said Chris Ferris, VP of Broadcasting for IMG College. “Lynn has a long history and deep roots in the very important Charleston market, the state’s capital and largest city. WMXE’s strong signal will provide essential coverage for our growing network to the Kanawha Valley, including Charleston and the outlying areas.”

West Virginia University and IMG College, which operates the nation’s largest independent sports radio network, formed a broad 12-year multimedia rights and sponsorship partnership including exclusive representation and management of game broadcasts and coaches’ shows on the Mountaineer Sports Network from IMG beginning in the 2013-14 season.

Mountaineer Sports Network from IMG plans to add four hours of pre- and post-game coverage for WVU football. Pregame shows will expand from one hour to 3.5 hours and postgame shows to two hours from 30 minutes. The network now has 36 affiliates carrying live WVU sports with more expected to be announced.
