MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – In the last fall rankings of the season, the West Virginia University rifle team stays put at No. 2 in today’s Collegiate Rifle Coaches Association (CRCA) Poll.
The Mountaineers’ (9-0, 4-0) ranking is based on their team score of 4716, shot in their victory at No. 4 Alaska-Fairbanks (4651) on Sunday. The NCAA qualification method will determine the remaining rankings this season.
TCU retained the No. 1 ranking for the second straight week with a school-record 4718 score shot in its win over No. 3 Kentucky (4693) on Nov. 17. The Horned Frogs’ score was two shots short of WVU’s NCAA record of 4720.
UK and UAF held steady at No. 3 and No. 4, respectively, while Air Force jumped two places to No. 5.
Jacksonville State slid back one to No. 6, and Army moved up one to No. 7. Nevada is up one spot to No. 8, and Memphis and Murray State are tied at No. 9.
The Mountaineers are now on a two-month break from competition. The squad will return to the WVU Rifle Range on Jan. 19 to play host to Great American Rifle Conference (GARC) foe Nebraska.
