MORGANTOWN, W.Va. The Big 12 Conference has announced that junior swimmer Tim Squires and junior diver Haily VandePoel have been named Big 12 Swimmer and Diver of the week.

Junior Tim Squires earned Big 12 Swimmer of the Week honors.

This marks the second straight swimmer of the week award for the WVU men’s team, with senior Bryce Bohman taking the first award of the year back on Oct. 23.

For the women’s team, VandePoel’s honor marks the first award of the season for the Mountaineers.

Squires won every event he participated in for the Mountaineers in the WVU Invite. As a member of the 200 free relay, Squires played a crucial role in setting a pool record (1:21.66), opening the relay with a 50 split of 20.24. In a crowded field in the 50 free sprint, Squires set himself apart with a time of 20.39, winning by .67 seconds.

VandePoel continues to finish strong on the boards for the Mountaineer divers, completing her third straight sweep of both boards in the WVU Invite. She posted scores of 279.00 for the 1-meter and 321.30 on the 3-meter.

The two teams travel to Charlottesville, Va. this week for the Big 12/ACC Challenge against Texas, Penn State and host Virginia.
