Swimmers Earn All-Big 12 Academic Honors

MORGANTOWN, W.Va.  – The Big 12 Conference has announced that 27 members of the West Virginia swimming and diving teams have been named to the 2014 All-Academic Big 12 teams.
First-team honorees from the women’s squad include Eva Burlingham, Morgan Emter, Hayley Kidd, Katie Murto, Julie Ogden, Courtney Parenti, Jennifer Rey, Meredith Rogers, Lindsay Schmidt, Sloan Storie, Tori Taffner, Haily VandePoel and Jenelle Zee.
Storie, VandePoel and Zee were three of four nominees in the conference who earned 4.0 grade-point-averages.
Second-team honorees from the women’s squad include Austen Carrington and Jaimee Gillmore.
First-team honorees from the men’s squad include Bryce Bohman, Chris Brill, Aidan Fumagalli, Jake Iotte, Liam McLaughlin, Peter Murto, Jake Querciagrossa and Julien Vialette.
Second-team honorees from the men’s squad include Daeton DavenportJay Hickey, Andrew Marsh and Miles Molinaro.
To qualify for All-Academic Big 12 First Team, student-athletes needed to maintain above a 3.20 GPA and participate in at least 60 percent of competition. Second team student-athletes maintained between a 3.0 and 3.20 GPA.
The men’s and women’s teams will compete in the Big 12 Championships this week from Feb. 26-March 1 in Austin, Texas.
