Three Mountaineers have officially received the invite to attend the NFL Scouting Combine Feb. 18-24 in Indianapolis.

Patrick White, Mortty Ivy, and Greg Isdaner will each get a chance to show they belong in the league. White has the early advantage after a successful week at the Senior Bowl. Ivy will have to prove he has the speed to play in the league, while Isdaner will have to show that his shoulders are healthy enough to withstand the rigors of pro football.

Marshall has two players on the invite list. Receiver Darius Passmore and safety Claude Spillman will get a chance to show they are NFL worthy.

Brandon Ore, the running back from West Liberty who transferred from Virginia Tech, has also received an invitation.

Big East champion Cincinnati will send a league-high six players to the combine.

Pitt is sending three players, including early entrant running back LeSean McCoy.

Rutgers will also send three players including receivers Kenny Britt and Tiquan Underwood.

Just why is Southern Cal so good every year? Players. Eleven Trojans are heading to the combine. That’s an amazing number.

Here’s another head shaker. Ten players from LSU received invitations to the combine. The Tigers finished the season 8-5 and 3-5 in SEC play. You shouldn’t finish 8-5 when you have 10 players on your team that have a chance to play in the NFL.

The scary number is that national champion Florida has just four players receiving invitations. Just how good will the Gators be next season?

Undefeated Utah had three players earning invites.

Why has Notre Dame become just another team? Once again, players. One member of the Irish received an invite to Indianapolis. Let’s see, Southern Cal has 11 players going to the combine and Notre Dame has one. You think that might explain this season’s final score of 38-3 in favor of the Trojans?

Switching to basketball, here is one final note: Notre Dame is mired in a five-game losing streak and all five losses have come to nationally ranked teams. I haven’t done the research, but I would be shocked if that’s ever happened before in the history of college basketball.
