TONY'S BIG EAST TOURNAMENT REPORT | CBS COLLEGE SPORTS BIG EAST TOURNAMENT PREVIEW

It’s a coldish, rainy day in New York City, the kind of day that umbrella hawkers working the street corners absolutely love. It’s also the day that Big East Tournament organizers will begin the basketball version of running a marathon.

We are T-minus one day away from the start of the biggest Big East Tournament in conference history. That’s quite a statement considering that the Big East has held some gargantuan hoop showcases for more than 25 years. But, when the ball gets tossed up tomorrow at high noon, it will officially begin the first-ever 16-team Big East championship. Fifteen games in five days to determine who, in fact, is the biggest and best in the Big East.

What’s it going to be like? Will Tuesday at the Garden have the buzz that’s become the signature of this tournament? Will there be upsets on day one or will the higher seeds eliminate the underdogs with a workman-like efficiency?

Can DePaul shake a season’s worth of frustration off with one glorious Garden afternoon and shock Cincinnati in the opener?

Does St. John’s find Garden magic with a win over Georgetown? A Red Storm victory would be huge for Coach Norm Roberts. A loss for Georgetown would be the final exclamation point in one of the most disappointing seasons in that school’s proud history.

Rutgers played Notre Dame tight in South Bend during the regular season. Do the Scarlet Knight’s finish the deal on Tuesday and send the Irish home early?

Does Seton Hall begin a tournament run at the expense of South Florida? It’s a matchup of two of the league’s best scorers in Jeremy Hazell and Dominque Jones.

Those are just a few questions to ponder as the biggest Big East Tournament prepares to take over the in the Big Apple.
