MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - The West Virginia University volleyball team opened its 2014 spring slate at the KiVA Collegiate Tournament in Louisville, Ky., this past weekend.
“KiVA Volleyball Club and club director Ron Kordes hosted a fabulous event on Saturday. It was our first time to attend the tournament, and I'm really looking forward to taking our squad back in future years,” says coach Jill Kramer. “We saw some great competition over the course of the day. I like the way our team approached each match and worked through many new lineups.”
The Mountaineers went 3-0 on Saturday with wins over Memphis, Morehead State and UT Martin. WVU was slated to play four matches, however a last-minute schedule adjustment led to the change.
“There are a few things we were focused on. We wanted to play physical, make sure we were keeping the tempo of our offense fast, stay unified throughout each match, communicate well during each point and stay disciplined within our systems. We stuck with those behaviors pretty well throughout the day,” Kramer says.
“Playing some other teams gives us a great gauge to see where we are at, the rate of improvement we are making as a team and where we can get better heading into this week’s practices.”
