MORGANTOWN, W.Va.  – West Virginia University wrestling's incoming freshman Zeke Moisey capped off his high school career at Bethlehem Catholic with a perfect 44-0 regular season and an appearance at the 2014 Dapper Dan Classic in Pittsburgh, Pa., on March 16.

“Zeke has had an exceptional senior year. He won everything there is to win, including the nation's premiere tournament, the Beast of the East, where he was named the Outstanding Wrestler and earned the most team points,” says coach Craig Turnbull. “Zeke defeated the No. 1-ranked wrestler in country on a couple of occasions, and then walked through the Pennsylvania state tournament.”

Moisey represented the Pennsylvania All-Stars in the 40th edition of the Dapper Dan Classic, falling to Steve Micic in the 126-pound bout, 13-4.

“Zeke is not happy with his match at the Dapper Dan, but from a coach's perspective, a loss in that setting will only fuel his work and desire coming into WVU, and allow him to set new goals and achieve them immediately,” Turnbull says. “He will make an immediate impact on our program next fall.”

Moisey entered the Classic ranked No. 21 in the country by Intermat, and with a career record of 141-14. Micic, No. 19 in the country by Intermat, boasted three state championships and a mark of 182-5.

Zeke struck first and had a leg up to score, but after a scramble, Micic took away the chance. After a scoreless opening period, the fatigue of a long season began to show, as Micic took control, forcing Moisey to take risky shots to get back into it.

Moisey's impressive career at Bethlehem Catholic culminated with the 2014 AA Pennsylvania State Championship and the Express-Times Wrestler of the Year Award.

The past three winners of the Express-Times' Wrestler of the Year honor will all be competing at this year's NCAA DI Championships in Oklahoma City. Mike Racciato of Pitt (2012-13) will compete at 149 pounds, Zach Horan of Central Michigan at 141 pounds (2010-11) and Brandon Palik of Drexel (2009) at 197 pounds.

In its 40th year, the Dapper Dan has become the premiere post season event in Pennsylvania wrestling. The Pennsylvania All-Stars match up against the top high school wrestlers across the country. Eleven Olympic medalists have competed at the event, while 64 NCAA Champions since 2000 have represented the Classic, including the Mountaineers' eighth-year assistant coach Greg Jones.
