MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia women’s soccer team checks in at No. 21 in this week’s Soccer America Top 25 rankings, and is receiving votes in the latest National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) poll.
The Mountaineers are coming off a 2-0-0 weekend that kicked off Big 12 Conference play with wins over Texas Tech and then-No. 7 Oklahoma State. WVU has lost only one match since knocking off top-ranked Stanford on Aug. 26.
West Virginia began the season ranked No. 20 in the NSCAA poll and No. 23 in the Soccer America Preseason Top 25.
Forward Frances Silva
continues to haul in the weekly honors, today being named the Disney Soccer/NSCAA National Player of the Week. Silva will be recognized during the NSCAA College Game of the Week Friday night on FOX Soccer.
Silva scored three goals, including both game-winners to give WVU its first Big 12 victories. The junior also was named Soccer News Net’s National Player of the Week, ECAC Division I Women’s Soccer Player of the Week, and College Sports Madness Women’s Soccer’s Offensive Player of the Week and Big 12 Player of the Week.
West Virginia returns to action on Friday, Sept. 28, for its first Big 12 road contest at TCU. Kickoff is slated for 8 p.m. ET at Garvey-Rosenthal Stadium.
