Silva Scores, U.S. Moves to 2-0

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University women’s soccer graduate Frances Silva notched the game-winner in the U.S. Under-23 Women’s National Team’s 2-1 victory over Sweden on March 3, at the Six Nations Tournament in La Manga, Spain.
In her first start of the tournament, Silva, a midfielder out of Overland Park, Kan., notched her goal in the 31st minute off an assist from Texas Tech defender Jaelene Hinkle.
Stanford forward Chioma Ubogagu put the team ahead 1-0 in the 16th minute, while Sweden tallied a goal in the 61st minute.
The squad opened the tournament with a 1-0 victory over Japan on March 1. Silva did not see action in the win.
The USA will finish the competition against Norway on March 5.
