Track Resumes Indoor Season

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - After a break for the holiday season, The West Virginia University track and field team is set to resume its indoor season with the Doug Raymond Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 12 at 10 a.m., at the Kent State Field House in Kent, Ohio.

“Anytime you send a team home for two weeks there is a little uneasiness in the air,” coach Sean Cleary says. “Training had gone very well before break and looks to be right on track for the season based on this week’s workouts. It's clear the team did a very good job while at home.”

The Mountaineers will face off against event host Kent State, Duquesne, Robert Morris and Cincinnati. Competition begins at 10 a.m. for track and field events with the women's weight throw and women's long jump, while the women's 5,000-meter run is slated as the first event on the track.

“This is a perfect meet for our group as we pick up the season,” Cleary says. “I want us to go out and compete hard. We have an opportunity to run on a 300-meter track which will aid us come the Big 12 Championships. The theme of this group should be take advantage of the each and every opportunity.”

At the Marty Pushkin Classic on Dec. 1, junior Stormy Nesbit and senior Heather Adams posted record-setting performances. Nesbit posted the fourth-best triple jump performance in school history with a mark of 11.89 meters and Adams recorded the third-best weight throw in school history at 16.53 meters. Junior Chene Townsend also had a solid start to the season by taking first in two events for the Mountaineers in the 60-meter dash (7.75) and the 60-meter hurdles (8.86).
