MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University players Pat White and Mortty Ivy gave the Mountaineers a sweep of the BIG EAST Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week Awards for their performances in WVU’s 35-13 victory against UConn.
White, the two-time reigning BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Year, accounted for 230 yards of offense and scored three touchdowns to help keep the Mountaineers alone in first place in the BIG EAST standings. He ran for a game-high 109 yards and two touchdowns on 21 carries and completed 11 of 18 passes for 121 yards and another TD. White also surpassed career milestones of 4,000 rushing yards, 5,000 passing yards and 9,000 total yards.
Ivy, WVU’s strongside linebacker who leads the Mountaineers with 61 tackles, had 10 tackles, a pass breakup and set up a Mountaineer touchdown with a 19-yard interception return in the fourth quarter against UConn. Ivy led a defense that registered its third consecutive second-half shutout and held Connecticut’s rushing offense - which was ranked 17th nationally - to 95 yards below its average.
The Mountaineers return to action with a BIG EAST clash against Cincinnati on Saturday, Nov. 8, at 7 p.m. at Mountaineer Field. The game will be broadcast by ESPNU.
