Women's Basketball: WVU Takes on Ohio State

    MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - West Virginia University’s women’s basketball team takes on No. 3 ranked Ohio State in the semifinals of the Preseason WNIT, Thursday, Nov. 19, at 7 p.m. at Value City Arena in Columbus, Ohio.

    The meeting between West Virginia (2-0) and the Buckeyes (3-0) will be the 10th in a series that began in 1978 and was last played in the 2004 NCAA Tournament, a 73-67 Buckeye win. OSU leads the all-time series by a 9-0 count.

    West Virginia (2-0) is fresh off a 55-50 victory over Marist Monday night at the WVU Coliseum in second-round action of the Preseason WNIT. The Mountaineers are led by junior guard Liz Repella’s 15.0 points and 9.0 rebounds per contest. Freshman center Asya Bussie is second on the squad, averaging 14 points and 8.5 rebounds per contest.

    Ohio State is 3-0 on the year and stepped out of Preseason WNIT play last night with an 88-55 home victory over UAB. In Preseason WNIT tournament play, the Buckeyes have defeated Eastern Illinois, 91-68, and Bowling Green, 91-72. Four players are averaging double-figures led by junior center Jantel Lavender’s 25.7 points and 11.0 rebounds per contest. OSU is averaging 90 points per contest.

    The Mountaineers are averaging 49.0 rebounds per game and shooting 40% from the field while Ohio State is averaging 90 points and shooting 47.9% from the field.

    The contest will be broadcast on MSN women’s basketball affiliated stations with play-by-play announcer Travis Jones and analyst Jay Jacobs on the call. Fans can watch the contest on the Internet via BigTenNetwork.com.
