Women's Basketball: Ranked 13th in Coaches' Poll

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (January 12, 2010) – West Virginia University’s women’s basketball team (15-1, 3-0) moved up four spots to No. 13 in the latest ESPN/USA Today Coaches’ Top 25 poll, released today, receiving 363 points.

It is the highest-ranked the Mountaineers have been in the Coaches’ poll since reaching No. 11 in the 2007-08 season. The Mountaineers were ranked No. 18 in the AP poll yesterday.

The Mountaineers are off to their best 16-game start in school history and have won 13 games in a row, the most of the Mike Carey era and most since stringing together 22 in a row during the 1991-92 season. WVU has also won 13-straight contests at home, the third-longest home winning streak in school history.

West Virginia returns to action tonight, at 7 p.m., when it takes on Villanova at the WVU Coliseum. The game will air on West Virginia PBS with Hoppy Kercheval and Warren Baker on the call.
