BIG EAST CHAMPIONSHIP BRACKET
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The 23rd-ranked West Virginia women’s soccer team has earned a first round bye in the 2010 BIG EAST Championship, holding the No. 2 seed position in the American Division. The Mountaineers will play host to Rutgers on Sunday, Oct. 31, at 1 p.m. at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium.
The conference tournament features a 10-team field with Notre Dame and Marquette earning No. 1 seeds. Georgetown is the No. 2 seed in the National Division and USF earned American Division No. 3 seed. Connecticut and DePaul earned No. 4 seeds and will host No. 5 seeds Louisville and Pitt in first-round action this week.
West Virginia finished the regular season with a 13-4-1 record, 9-1-1 mark in BIG EAST play. WVU is riding a program record-tying nine game win streak.
Rutgers carries a 10-8-1 record, 5-5-1 in league play. Rutgers improved its seeding with a win today over Louisville and a loss by DePaul.
Last season, WVU and Rutgers met in the BIG EAST quarterfinals in Piscataway, N.J., with West Virginia coming away with a 1-0 victory.
The Mountaineers have now qualified for the BIG EAST tournament in 11 straight years, only Connecticut and Rutgers have equaled the feat. West Virginia has advanced to the semifinal round in five consecutive seasons.
