Volleyball: Cardinals defeat Mountaineers
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University volleyball team fell to BIG EAST competitor Louisville this afternoon at the WVU Coliseum. The Cardinals are now 17-9 (10-1 BIG EAST), after they posted a 3-0 (25-15, 25-17, 25-11) win over the Mountaineers (14-14, 4-8 BIG EAST). Louisville started with a dominating lead in set one, until a kill from senior Abby Norman brought WVU back to within two with a score of 10-12. However, the Mountaineers could not contain the Cardinals as they posted 17 team kills, including six from Lola Arslanbekova to win the set. Junior Michelle Kopecky posted two-straight kills to start the second set, as the two teams battled for the lead. Down 5-7, the Mountaineers came back with kills from junior Kylie Armbruster and senior Lauren Evans to tie the set at seven. Louisville then stepped up with a 7-0 run to take back the lead and the set. The Mountaineers fought hard in the third set, but fell as Emily Juhl posted five-straight service aces to capture the match. Junior setter Kari Post recorded her second double-double of the weekend, finishing with 25 assists and 13 digs. Kopecky led the Mountaineers in kills with eight, while junior Serinna Russo posted 14 digs. WVU will conclude its regular season next weekend with a 4 p.m. match against St. John’s on Friday, Nov. 12, and a 2 p.m. match against Connecticut on Sunday, Nov. 14. |
