Women's Basketball: WVU Reaches Top 10

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – After opening the season ranked No. 11 by the Associated Press and ESPN/USA Today Coaches preseason polls, the West Virginia women’s basketball team defeated Loyola Maryland in its first game of the season to move up in the polls.

The Mountaineers are currently ranked No. 10 in the Associated Press poll. WVU reached as high as No. 7 last season, the highest AP ranking in program history. The team has been ranked No. 8 four times, No. 9 once and No. 10 one other time in addition to this week. The last time the Mountaineers were ranked No. 10 was March 15, 2010.

West Virginia will play a pair of nonconference games this week, starting with a 7 p.m. game Wednesday against Duquesne and closing out the week, Friday at 7 p.m. with Delaware State. Both games will take place in the WVU Coliseum.
