MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia punter Gregg Pugnetti was recognized by the Big East as its special teams player of the week, the conference announced Monday.
Pugnetti withstood a constant Louisville rush to get off all seven of his punts cleanly, averaging 44.9 yards per punt with a long boot of 47 yards during West Virginia’s 17-10 victory over Louisville. Two of Pugnetti’s punts were downed inside the Louisville 20. For the season Pugnetti is averaging 42.1 yards per punt and he ranks third this week in the conference in punting average.
West Virginia (7-3, 3-2) travels to Pitt (6-4, 4-1) to face the Panthers at Heinz Field this Friday in a noon game that will be televised on ABC.
