Football: Bailey Announced as Finalist

CHICAGO – Voting for the finals of the All-Star Performances of the Year opened today, Intersport announced. West Virginia wide reciever Stedman Bailey is a finalist for the Mercedes-Benz Receiver Performance of the Year after winning week five with his seven-reception, 178-yard and two-touchdown performance in a 43-16 blowout over UCONN. Bailey is competing against 17 other weekly receiver winners from this season’s competition. The winners will be announced during the All-Star Football Challenge special, airing Super Bowl Sunday at 4 p.m. ET on ESPN2.

Bailey also joins all the top weekly vote-getters from the quarterback, running back and defense categories. Fan voting will decide one winner from each category, which will be named All-Star Performance of the Year. Finals voting ends Sunday, January 22.

All-Star Performances of the Year is a four-month competition that lets fans determine which individual performances reign supreme during the 2011 college football season.

In addition to recognizing the season’s top performances, the All-Star Football Challenge will feature college football’s biggest stars in a live skills challenge. In the 13-year history of the event, 41 first-round NFL draft picks have participated in the All-Star Football Challenge. Past participants include Drew Brees, Aaron Rodgers, Santana Moss, Vince Young, Vernon Davis, Donovan McNabb, Edgerrin James, and many others.

The All-Star Football Challenge will re-air on ESPN on Sunday, Feb. 12 at 4:30 p.m. ET and Sunday, Feb. 26 at 4:30 p.m. ET.
