Women’s Tennis: WVU Drops Finale
"It was a very tough year for all of us," said coach Tina Samara. "But we know we accomplished things behind the scenes that will help make this program successful nationally in the years ahead." The Scarlet Knights began the day by taking the doubles point, as they were able to notch wins in both doubles matches that were played. With the Mountaineers defaulting in the No. 6 singles match, Rutgers carried a 2-0 lead into singles play. In singles play, the Scarlet Knights were able to pull away, as they won four of the five matches. Freshman Ikttesh Chahal was the lone Mountaineer to win her match, as she defeated Rutgers’ Stefania Balasa. The win was Chahal’s fourth consecutive singles win and her ninth of the season. With the loss, WVU finishes the season with a 4-16 overall record and a 1-6 mark in the BIG EAST. "We competed well today," Samara said. "However, the wear and tear of the season mentally and physically caught up with us." The BIG EAST will announce the participants of the BIG EAST Women’s Tennis Championships on Monday evening.
