MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia throwers Terina Miller, Heather Adams, and Alanna Pritts earned solid distances in the hammer throw Friday to end the first day of competition at the Ashland Alumni Open in Ashland, Ohio.

Miller led the way for the Mountaineers with a 53.82-meter throw for fourth place in the event, her fourth-best distance of the outdoor season in the hammer throw.

Adams placed eighth in the event at 52.94 meters, her third-best mark of the 2012 outdoor season and just short of her personal-best distance of 53.29 meters.

Pritts earned a career-best distance of 42.24 meters in the hammer throw, topping her previous personal record of 41.72 meters set last week at the Larry Ellis Invitational. The distance replaces her previous best, which stands at fifth-best on the WVU all-time best distances list for the event.

The throwers continue action Saturday with the discus throw scheduled for 10 a.m. and the shot put slated for 10:30 a.m.
