Track: Team Seeks a BIG EAST Title
The Mountaineers will send 18 athletes who qualified for 14 events to the conference meet, as well as a number of relays participants and athletes looking for NCAA regional-qualifying times. “We are looking to come out and have our best meet of the year,” says WVU coach Sean Cleary. “Our goal is always the same, which is to go out and compete with pride and total commitment.” Hammer throwers Terina Miller and Heather Adams compete at noon Friday, while Jordan Hamric and Aubrey Moskal compete in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at 8:30 p.m. Kate Harrison and Stephanie Caruso aim for a league title in the 10,000-meter run slated for Friday night at 9:05 p.m. All events run concurrently Friday through Sunday. Last year at the BIG EAST Outdoor Championships, the Mountaineers earned a program-best 2nd-place finish with 107 points in which they scored in a school-record 13 of 21 events. Five BIG EAST individual title were achieved, including three from Carrier-Eades and one from Harrison, and 12 athletes advanced to compete at the NCAA East Regional. “This is our last BIG EAST Championships meet,” Cleary says. “We certainly want and expect a strong showing.” Live video of the BIG EAST Outdoor Championships can be seen at bigeast.org.
