MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University baseball team will play its final non-conference game of the season against La Salle on Tuesday, May 15, at Hawley Field. The first pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m.

WVU currently holds a record of 20-31 overall and a 7-17 mark in BIG EAST play going into the final weekend of the regular season. In order to qualify for the BIG EAST Tournament, the Mountaineers must win its final three games of the season against USF this weekend.
The Mountaineers dropped two of three games last weekend at Georgetown. Despite taking the loss in game one, sophomore right-hander Corey Walter
pitched his third-consecutive complete game, allowing five runs on 12 hits with six strikeouts. In game two’s victory, sophomore right-hander Ryan Tezak
got the win in 2.2 innings of work, striking out the final six Hoya batters of the evening.
Junior shortstop John Polonius
leads the team with a .321 batting average, and he has collected six doubles, two homers and 19 RBIs. Last weekend, Polonius led the team batting 7-for-14 (.500) with one double and five RBIs.
Freshman center fielder Bobby Boyd
is hitting .320 with 37 runs, seven doubles, one triple, two home runs and 18 RBIs. Boyd also has 21 stolen bases in 24 attempts to lead the squad. Boyd scored three runs with one RBI and two stolen bases at Georgetown.
La Salle (20-29) is hitting .261 as a team with 15 home runs and 34 steals in 60 attempts. The Explorers are led at the plate by Jeff Flax, who is hitting .304 with four doubles, one triple and 16 RBIs. George Smith Jr. is batting .298 with 13 doubles, one triple, two homers and 26 RBIs, while Joe Bennie is hitting .291 with seven doubles, two triples, five home runs and 18 RBIs.
This will be the first time in school history that WVU and La Salle have met on the diamond.
