Swimming: Women’s Squad Named Breakout Team
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University women’s swimming and diving team was named an Honorable Mention Female Breakout Team of the Year by College Swimming Honors magazine. At the 2012 NCAA Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships, the Mountaineers took 26th place after earning seven honorable mention All-America honors. The 800 free relay team of Rachael Burnett, Kata Fodor, Mandie Nugent and Danielle Smith finished in 16th place. Burnett earned individual honors in the 500 free and 1650 free, and Nugent took honors in the 200 fly. The WVU women’s squad took third at the BIG EAST Championships with coach Vic Riggs earning the honor of BIG EAST Women’s Swimming and Diving Coach of the Year. Burnett was named the BIG EAST Women’s Most Outstanding Swimmer for the second-consecutive year. Tennessee earned the honor of Female Breakout Team of the Year, while eight teams earned honorable mention honors. |
