MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Rising West Virginia University senior Petra Zublasing placed 12th in the women’s 10m air rifle, today, inside the Royal Artillery Barracks, at the 2012 London Summer Olympics.

The Appiano, Italy, native, and the 2012 NCAA air rifle champion, just missed qualifying for the event final, shooting 396 (99-100-99-98). Five shooters shot 397 and competed in a shoot-off for the final’s last four spots.

Shooting in her first Olympic Games, Zublasing, ranked No. 32 in the world in the event, improved upon her last three international scores, as she shot 393 at the 2012 London, Milan and Munich International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) World Cups.

China’s Yi Siling won the event’s Gold medal with a final total of 502.9. Yi shot 399 in the qualification round and 103.9 in the final. Poland’s Sylwia Bogacka won Silver with a total of 502.2 (399, 103.2), while Yi’s teammate, Yu Dan, shot 501.5 (398, 103.5) and won Bronze.

Yi, the reigning air rifle world champion, was the first athlete of the Games to earn a medal.

No. 1-ranked Nicco Campriani looks to follow-up his 2010 air rifle world championship with an Olympic Gold medal this Monday, July 30, in the men’s 10m air rifle. The qualification round is set to begin at 9 a.m. London GMT, with the final scheduled for 12:15 p.m. A link for a live stream of the final can be found HERE.
