MORGANTOWN, W.Va. -- Senior Eric Grimm hit a two-run walkoff home run in the bottom of the ninth inning and junior lefthander Tino Medina had a gritty complete game effort on the mound to lead West Virginia to a dramatic 5-4 win over Le Moyne Sunday afternoon.
The win was WVU's third of four against the Dolphins in a series that saw three games decided by a single run.
Medina (1-1) struggled to start the game giving up two walks and a wild pitch that led to two Le Moyne runs in the top of the first inning.
WVU countered with two runs in its half of the first, scoring when Lee Fritz's two-run single plated Jake Serfass, who reached on a single followed by Derek Cisar's walk.
Medina surrendered a single run in the sixth and seventh as WVU fell behind 4-2. Tim McCabe's RBI single scored Serfass in the bottom of the seventh to cut the lead to 4-3.
Down by a single run in the ninth, Serfass reached base with his fourth hit of the game. Grimm then connected on his third home run of the season with a deep drive to right center for the WVU victory.
Medina went all nine innings, allowing four runs (three earned) on seven hits with six walks and four strikeouts.
Serfass was 4-5 with three runs scored to pace the WVU offense. Fritz and Grimm were each 2-4 with two RBI.
Matt Scherer (0-1) took the loss as he went the distance for Le Moyne allowing five runs on nine hits while surrendering five walks with five strikeouts.
