About Podcasting

Podcasting is a way to receive audio files over the Internet by using feeds to deliver the audio broadcasts directly to your desktop. You can listen to the files on your computer or load them on your MP3 player and take them with you.

Twelve percent of Internet users have downloaded a podcast, according to a Pew survey from November 2006; up from 7 percent in their February to April survey.

To get started, all you need is podcasting software. Once you download and install the software, you add the podcast feed. The podcasting software will automatically check for updates and download the files to your computer. Here are some popular ways to listen to podcasts you can download for FREE.

  • iTunes
  • Juice
  • IPodder
  • IPodderX

To receive MSN feeds in your podcasting application:

    1. Click on for the feed you want. (You can right-click or option-click for a shortcut)

    2. Copy the URL in the address bar of your browser (or from your clipboard) and paste it into your podcasting application.

    3. Alternatively, click on to launch the feed directly in ITunes.

Launch iTunes and click Advanced on the menu bar at the top. Scroll down to Subscribe to a Podcast and enter the URL http://www.msnsportsnet.com/podcast/msnpodcasts.xml.

When you enter this URL in the Subscribe to Podcast window and then click OK, an entry for the podcast will appear in the Podcast playlist within iTunes’ main window and the file will begin downloading to your computer.

iTunes displays your Podcast playlist, which shows all of the podcasts to which you have subscribed. Next to the new podcast subscription, you should see an orange circle, which indicates that iTunes is downloading your most recent episode. When the orange circle disappears, you should be able to see your podcast title, a list of all the episodes referenced in your feed, and a check next to the most recent episode, indicating that it has been successfully downloaded. Double-click on the episode to play it in iTunes.

Click on the window and the video appears in a larger, separate window. Control-click (Mac) or Right-click (Windows) on the window and choose Full Screen to view the video at full screen. Click the down arrow to scroll through past programs, or right-click at the top to check for updated Podcasts.
