MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – After falling in the first two games of the West Virginia University baseball Gold-Blue World Series, Team Matlock defeated Team Trout 5-4 in extra innings on Friday evening at Hawley Field.

Tied at 4-4 going into the ninth inning, Maverick Myers continued his stellar series by hitting a sacrifice fly to deep center field, scoring Michael Constantini from third for the game-winning run. Constantini led the inning off with a single, followed by a single from Matt Frazer that advanced Constantini to third base.

Team Trout had a comeback for the third-consecutive day, scoring three runs in the top of the seventh to force extra innings. Daniel Pappas scored the game-tying run on a two-out double by Alex Stephens.

Ryan McBroom got Team Trout off to an early lead with a home run in the second inning, but Team Matlock clawed back, scoring runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings to take a 4-1 lead.

John Means started for Team Matlock, throwing 3.0 innings and allowing one run on three hits. Marshall Thompson took the mound for Team Trout and did not allow a hit in 3.0 innings, while striking out two.

The team will now continue practice for the remainder of the fall season.
