Football Player Quotes
MORGANTOWN, W. Va. – The West Virginia football team addressed members of the media Tuesday night. The Mountaineers take on Baylor in their first Big 12 game Saturday, September 29th. The game will be televised at noon on FX. Stedman Bailey On what he’s seen on the Baylor defense on film They look pretty good on film. They look pretty solid on defense. They have some good defensive backs, and their guys up front do a good job of creating pressure on the quarterback. They’ve given up quite a bit of points the past few games, but that’s no reason for us to take them lightly. On if Baylor’s offensive scoring puts pressure on their (WVU) offense to score more, Not necessarily. We are just going to go out and do what we are taught to do and what we are capable of doing. On playing in the first Big 12 game I’m pretty excited heading into conference play. Everybody has been waiting on this very moment. Baylor is our first Big 12 opponent, and we just have to take it week by week. We’re excited to play Baylor and kickoff the Big 12 Darwin Cook On Baylor’s up tempo offense It’s a high advantage for us on defense. Last week we played Maryland, and it was slow tempo which threw us off balance. We are used to an up-tempo offense and defense. We preach that every day in practice. I think we’ll be fine with it on Saturday. On Baylor’s deep pass ability They throw it up there. If they throw it deep 10 times, and we just get it one time then they’re happy about that. They try to beat you vertically a lot of the time. It’s a big challenge for us, because we aren’t used to that. However, I feel like we’ve prepared for it all week, and we will be ready for Saturday. Joe Madsen On playing in the first Big 12 game I can’t wait. It’s a new experience, new game, new people. I think we are going to go out there and play our best, and hopefully we have a good time and play our hearts out. It’s a special thing. I hope we bring this conference a lot of great things. On last week’s performance against Maryland We played really average I think. We made some communication errors, and that’s something we need to work on. We were able to squeeze out the win and that’s all you want to do. We’re trying to get better. On what he sees in Baylor’s defensive line They’re like Maryland. They have some speed guys, and some guys who come off the ball and will push and pull you a lot. We’re game planning for that. Terence Garvin On playing Nick Florence and the Baylor offense We are just going to try and go out and play our game. We’re trying to game plan for this, and come up with schemes all week for this game. We are going to go out and try to make plays. On if the defense has a chip on their shoulder from the “shootout” perception of this game We want to go out and show that we can make plays too. Of course as a defense you never want to go out and expect to give up some points. You want to come out and say that we are going to make plays. Isaiah Bruce On Baylor’s spread offense This is definitely going to be a first for us in seeing how much they spread out the whole field. They use the entire field to make us spread out and get us out of the box. That’s going to be a challenge with respecting the run and going out to cover their receivers. The coaches know what they’re doing, and we should know how to play them. A lot of our coaches have seen this conference before, and this team a lot, so that gives us a lot of confidence that they will have us prepared and ready for this week’s game. On Baylor’s quarterback Nick Florence On what I’ve seen he’s good. We are going to try and make him one – dimensional. As much as he’s widening out the field, it’ll be a challenge, but we will try and keep him contained. |
