MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia football team addressed members of the media Tuesday night. The Mountaineers travel to Lubbock to play Texas Tech on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. on ABC.

Geno Smith
On what he has seen so far on Texas Tech compared to Texas

They have a really good defense as well. Every game has its own story, and I expect them to be tough. On the road, it is kind of similar to what we faced this past weekend at Texas with a hostile crowd. It should be a good game.

On Texas Tech’s defense
They do a great job on making it tough on quarterbacks. They get a lot of interceptions and turnovers. They really make things complex with the way they react to the ball. They do a great job of reading the quarterback’s eyes and reacting to the ball.

On whether this team can stay at a high energy level in this game
I believe so; I believe we have a great group of leaders on this team. We have great leadership from the coaching staff down to the players. We have good senior leadership. We all understand our responsibilities, which is to getting better from week to week. We are not going to look past anyone. It’s a marathon, not a sprint.

Isaiah Bruce
On the defense’s goals each week and how they’ve improved

We have set goals. I think it’s 14 points a game. We haven’t reached that yet this year, but we are trying to accomplish that. Game one, we probably missed twenty-something tackles, something crazy like that. As the weeks went on, we increased our focus on open – field tackling and making those plays, holding the guy as long as you can so the rest of the defense can collapse.

Andrew Buie
On the increased workload and being able to stay healthy

We do a good job of taking a lot of reps in practice. When you’re in the game and you’re taking those reps, it really doesn’t bother you that much. I haven’t been really taking too many big hits, so I’ve been fine. You just try to play the best you can with your eyes and put your body in the best situation. You don’t want to make unnecessary contact you don’t have to.

On what he will do following his performance against Texas
I don’t really know. It was a good win against Texas. We were glad that we were able to go out there and put that win together. Now it’s about moving forward and getting ready for Texas Tech. I just want to go out and play my game. If the opportunities are there, I just want to make the most of my opportunities and play ball.

On the offensive line’s play against Texas
The offensive line did a phenomenal job up front and opened up big creases. The fullbacks did a good job. The guys out on the perimeter did a good job blocking downfield. It was a total team effort on offense that allowed me to get those yards.

Pat Miller
On what he’s seen on the Texas Tech offense in film

They play physical. They take their shots downfield as well. They’ve always had a good offense. We just have to be ready for the challenge when it comes up.

On the play he made on 4th and 13 against Texas
It was just exciting. I really can’t just go off one play though. It’s just one play that’s one part of the game. You just need to go on to the next play. You can have a good play or a bad play; it’s about moving on and focusing on the next play. Eventually, the play will come your way. You just have to always be in the right position. I just happened to be in the right position and was able to make the play
