MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The No. 18 West Virginia University men’s soccer team will play its first-ever Mid-American Conference match when it takes on Florida Atlantic on Sunday, Sept. 23, at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium. The match will start at 2:30 p.m.

The Mountaineers (4-2-1) most recently defeated American, 2-0, last Saturday evening in a game that saw seniors Uwem Etuk and Eric Schoenle each score one goal.

"Whenever it’s a conference game, it seems like it’s always closer," coach Marlon LeBlanc says. "It was the same when we were in the Big East and I doubt it will be any different in the MAC."

Etuk leads the team with a goal and three assists for five points, while Schoenle has a team-leading two goals.

Senior goalkeeper Pat Eavenson has started all seven matches, making 18 saves and allowing five goals for a 0.69 goals-against average. Eavenson has three shutouts in the 2012 season.

The backline of Schoenle, senior Peabo Doue and freshmen Haydon Bennett and Nick Raskasky has allowed an average of just eight shots per game.

Florida Atlantic has a record of 1-4-1, and is coming off a scoreless draw against Missouri-Kansas City. Deniz Bozkurt has two of the team’s five goals and goalkeeper Jeremy Crumpton has made five starts, allowing five goals with 20 saves for a 1.03 goals-against average.
