MORGANTOWN, W.Va.– The West Virginia University diving squad completed their final day of competition at the NCAA Zone “A” Championships at the Christiansburg Aquatic Center at Virginia Tech.

Today’s competition featured action in both the men’s 3-meter and the women’s 1-meter board.

"Liam McLaughlin made finals tonight, which is a first for a WVU male," said diving coach Michael Grapner. "The competition was tough, the divers had to go six for six to make finals."

McLaughlin qualified for the finals of the 3-meter, finishing 16th overall with a score of 290.20. Freshman Christian Parker, and junior Richard Pokorny, placed 26th (268.40), and 27th (261.55), respectively.

For the women, sophomore Haily VandePoel came just short of qualifying for the event final in the 1-meter, placing 19th overall with a score of 225.40. Freshman Lindsay Schmidt placed 26th with a score of 218.40, while sophomore Jenn Rey placed 37th with a score of 204.00.

"This season was a good season for WVU diving," said Grapner. "The meet is what we needed to see, and experience, to prepare for next year."
