MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University rifle team resumes its 2012-13 season this week as the nation’s No. 1 team, as the Mountaineers retained their top billing in today’s Collegiate Rifle Coaches Association (CRCA) Poll.

The Mountaineers’ (9-0, 4-0 GARC) ranking is based on their team average of 4716.0. Team averages are derived from a squad’s top three scores shot at three different venues.

The first three teams behind WVU remain the same, as TCU is ranked No. 2, Kentucky is No. 3 and Alaska-Fairbanks is No. 4.

Army and Jacksonville State switched positions, as the Black Nights are up one to No. 5, and the Gamecocks are down one to No. 6. Air Force is the poll’s biggest jumper, as the team moved two spots to No. 7. Nebraska and Murray State each moved down one spot to No. 8 and No. 9, respectively, and Memphis held steady at No. 10.

The Mountaineers open the second half of their season this Saturday, Jan. 19, with a shoulder-to-shoulder match against the Cornhuskers at the WVU Rifle Range. The match will begin at 8 a.m. and go into the afternoon.
