MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - The West Virginia University volleyball team dropped a home conference match to Iowa State 3-0 (18-25, 15-25, 8-25) on Wednesday night in front of 704 fans at the WVU Coliseum.

“We came into this match knowing they were going to be working extra hard. We knew that, and you could see that in warmups,” says coach Jill Kramer. “Regardless of who is on the other side of the net, we have to play good volleyball. We did not play very good volleyball tonight.”

The Cyclones (17-6, 10-2 Big 12) have now won eight straight matches, while the Mountaineers (17-11, 3-9 Big 12) have dropped seven of their last eight.

Victoria Hurtt and Mackenzie Bigbee led Iowa State with 11 and 10 kills, respectively.

“It’s one match, but we have to make it just one match,” Kramer says. “I should have prepped us better. That’s a tough team, and I think we could have changed some things earlier to give more people their legs.”

West Virginia sophomore outside hitter Hannah Sackett had six kills on 16 attempts for the match.

The Cyclones were strong defensively in the first set. Iowa State held West Virginia to just a .061 hitting percentage in the game. Mackenzie Bigbee had six kills on nine attempts and Iowa State won the set 25-18.

The visitors carried their momentum into the second set. They held the Mountaineers to just a -.065 hitting percentage, while recording 16 team digs. Iowa State claimed the second set 25-15.

The Mountaineers were unable to comeback in the third set. The Cyclones hit .478 as a team and didn’t commit a single hitting error, winning the final set 25-8.

Iowa State is now 7-1 all-time against West Virginia, while Cyclone libero Kristen Hahn recorded 12 digs, extending her streak of consecutive matches with double-digit digs to 63.

The Mountaineers return to action on Saturday, Nov. 16, at 1 p.m., against TCU at the WVU Coliseum.
