MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - The No. 26 West Virginia University cross country team travels to Terra Haute, Ind., for the 2013 NCAA Cross Country Championships this Saturday, Nov. 23.
The women's 6k will get underway at 1:15 p.m.
“Looking at the weather for Saturday, it appears as if we will have trained and or raced in every element possible this fall,” says coach Sean Cleary. “Conditions for Saturday look to be in the 30s, which isn't bad at all. The ground will be muddy and wet – perfect conditions to slow races down.”
Cleary and the Mountaineers will be making their sixth appearance in the NCAA Cross Country Championships in the last seven seasons.
The Mountaineers earned an at-large bid to the Championships following a fourth-place finish at the Mid-Atlantic Regional.
“Our girls understand that regardless of conditions, it's still just another race,” Cleary says. “I expect us to go to the line confident and excited that we can put together our very best race of the season. We fully expect to enjoy every minute of this experience.”
West Virginia finished second at the Big 12 Championships earlier this month, behind an eighth-place finish from senior runner Sarah Martinelli
. Martinelli earned All-Big 12 honors for her top-15 finish, and later earned All-Region honors for another strong performance at the regional meet.
Results from the race and a recap will be posted on WVUsports.com shortly following the completion of the competition.
