MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University freshman defender Kadeisha Buchanan and the Canadian Women’s National Team will face the United States Women’s National Team on Friday, Jan. 31, at 9 p.m., ET.
The squads will meet at Toyota Stadium, home of Major League Soccer’s FC Dallas, in Frisco, Texas. The match, the first of the year for both, will air live on FOX Sports 1.
Buchanan, the 2013 Canadian U-20 Player of the Year, last competed with the team at the 2013 Torneio Internacional Cidade de Sao Paolo in December. Team Canada finished third at the tournament, and Buchanan earned the full 90 minutes on the backline in three of the team’s four matches.
The U.S. National Team features several familiar names, including forward Abby Wambach, midfielder Carli Lloyd and goalkeeper Hope Solo.
A native of Brampton, Ontario, Buchanan enjoyed a stellar rookie season at WVU. She started all 23 matches at center back and helped the Mountaineer defense post 10 shutouts. She was named to the 2013 National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA)/Continental Tire All-America Second Team, the first Mountaineer rookie to earn NSCAA All-America honors, and also was named the Big 12 Conference Defender and Rookie of the Year.
Buchanan helped lead the No. 12-ranked Mountaineers (16-4-3, 7-1 Big 12) to their second straight Big 12 regular-season title and first Big 12 Soccer Tournament title. The Mountaineers advanced to their 14th consecutive NCAA Tournament and concluded their season with a 1-0 loss at No. 1-seed Virginia Tech in the second round on Nov. 22.
