MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - Junior diver Liam McLaughlin
of the WVU men’s swimming and diving team was named the inaugural Big 12 Swimming and Diving Men’s Scholar-Athlete of the Year, the conference announced last Friday.
McLaughlin, a member of the Academic All-Big 12 First Team, carries a 3.74 cumulative GPA as a Management Information Systems major.
“I’m very proud of Liam for earning this inaugural Big 12 award,” coach Vic Riggs says. “These student-athletes are being recognized for their efforts in the classroom, as well as the hard work put in by the WVU academic staff. This is a great honor for Liam and our program.”
McLaughlin qualified for the NCAA Zone “A” Diving Championships and finished 16th on the 3-meter board and 22nd on the 1-meter board.
Nominees must be a junior or senior in athletic and academic standings, have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.2, participation in at least 60 percent of the team’s scheduled events and a minimum of one year in residence at the institution in order to qualify.
