Diving Completes Day One of NCAA Zones

MORGANTOWN, W. Va. – The West Virginia University diving teams completed the first day of the NCAA Zone “A” Diving Championships at the Christiansburg Aquatic Center in Blacksburg, Va.

Junior Haily VandePoel made the finals in the women’s 1-meter, finishing seventh overall with a final score of 501.25.
“Overall it was a good meet for the team,” says diving coach Michael Grapner. “Haily had an excellent day, she made improvements on all of her dives from prelims to finals and was very happy with her performance.”
For the men’s squad, senior Liam McLaughlin placed 33rd on the 3-meter (245.05)
Other finishes for the women’s squad included sophomore Lindsay Schmidt in 32nd (206.00), junior Jennifer Rey in 36th (203.95) and sophomore Tori Taffner in 40th (199.75).
“Tomorrow is the women’s 3-meter which is Haily’s strongest event and another good event for the girls,” says Grapner. “Liam McLaughlin will be on the 1-meter for his final collegiate contest.”
Tomorrow’s competition will be on the women’s 3-meter and men’s 1-meter. A full recap will be available following the action on WVUsports.com.
