Tennis Stumbles at Marshall

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University tennis team fell to Marshall today, 6-1, in Huntington.
Freshman Kaja Mrgole tallied her second victory of the spring in singles, defeating Derya Turhan, 7-6 (5), 6-3. Mrgole led the Mountaineers (0-3) in singles play during the fall, finishing 6-6.
The Thundering Herd (3-0) took five of the six matches in singles. Sophomore Hailey Barrett took the first set against Dana Oppinger, 6-3, before dropping the second set, 4-6, and the tiebreaker, 8-10.
In doubles, the freshmen tandem of Oana Manole and Mrgole, ranked No. 9 in the Atlantic Region, dropped its first match of the spring, falling to Karlie Timko and Anna Pomyatinskaya, 6-4. Marshall won two of the three doubles matches, with the No. 1 doubles match not being played to completion.
West Virginia comes back home against Cal (PA) on Friday, Feb. 7, at 3 p.m., at Ridgeview Racquet Club.
