Tennis Blanked by No. 18 Sooners

Junior Ikttesh Chahal started her singles match strong, but could not continue her momentum into the second set, as the Mountaineers fell to No. 18 Oklahoma. 
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University tennis team dropped its first of two matches in Oklahoma this weekend, falling to the No. 18 Sooners, 7-0.
The Mountaineers (3-15, 0-7 Big 12) fell behind after doubles play, dropping all three bouts. At No. 1 doubles, the freshmen tandem of Oana Manole and Kaja Mrgole was down 8-1 by the No. 64-ranked pair of Mia Lancaster and Whitney Ritchie. Morgan Chumney and Whitney Wofford sealed the doubles point for Oklahoma with an 8-3 victory against sophomore Hailey Barrett and junior Ikttesh Chahal.
In singles, WVU fell behind in the team scoring 2-0 after sophomore Irinka Toidze was defeated in straight sets by Emma Devine, 6-0, 6-1. The match was clinched at the conclusion of the No. 2 singles match, with No. 116 Ritchie downing Mrgole, 6-2, 6-1. At No. 4 singles, Chahal won four games in the first set, but could not continue the momentum into the second, falling 6-4, 6-0.
The Mountaineers travel to Stillwater, Okla., tomorrow, April 5, to battle the No.22-ranked Cowgirls of Oklahoma State at 6 p.m. EST.
