VSR: Frazer Named Athlete of the Week
A native of Alum Creek, W.Va., Frazer batted 5-for-11 (.455) with two runs, one double, two home runs and five RBIs.
Most importantly, Frazer hit the game-winning home run in the bottom of the 10th inning to defeat Villanova 6-5 in 10 innings on Saturday.

The Mountaineers will hit the road this week, first traveling to Maryland on Wednesday evening at 6 p.m. … WVU will then travel to Rutgers for a BIG EAST series from April 13-15 … Friday’s game will begin at 3 p.m., and Saturday’s and Sunday’s games begin at 1 p.m.

Four Mountaineers traveled to the Stanford Invitational in Palo Alto, Calif., to compete for conference and regional qualifying times … junior Jordan Hamric had a good showing in the 3,000-meter steeplechase by placing 15th in section three of the event in 10:47.05 to qualify for BIG EAST competition in early May … junior Stephanie Aldea placed 11th in section six of the 1,500-meter run in 4:39.81, just one second past a league-qualifying time and six seconds off a personal record time … senior Jessica O’Connell had the best performance on the day for the team as she placed second in section two of the 1,500 meter in 4:20.91 to qualify for BIG EAST … she was just a half-second off from placing first in her section … in the last race of the night, senior Stephanie Caruso placed 30th in section two of the 10,000-meter run in 35:05.60.

Hamric’s time of 10:47.05 was a career-best for the event and replaces her WVU all-time fourth-best mark of 10:55.08 set last season … O’Connell earned her second-best personal mark in the event as her time was just two seconds beyond her career-best time of 4:18.31, which is fourth-best all-time for WVU in the 1,500 meter … the 10,000-meter run was a first for Caruso, which she earned a BIG EAST-qualifying time below the 37:03.74 league requirement … a total of 16 athletes have qualified for 20 events at the BIG EAST Outdoor Championships in Tampa, Fla., in early May … Chelsea Carrier-Eades, Kate Harrison and Meghan Mock are returning All-Americans from the 2011 outdoor season … the Mountaineers look to achieve a Top-20 national finish for a fifth consecutive year in outdoor track.

WVU will travel to New Jersey for its final two matches of the regular season … Saturday’s match will be at noon against Seton Hall, while Sunday’s finale is at noon against Rutgers.

The Mountaineers played their final home match of the season against California (Pa.) … The Vulcans, who were ranked No. 8 in Division II, were victorious, 5-2.

Senior Catie Wickline notched her first career dual meet win on Saturday afternoon, as she defeated Franziska Steinhardt in the No. 5 singles spot … freshman Ikttesh Chahal also was able to win her singles match, which was second consecutive singles win and seventh overall of the season … senior Veronica Cardenas and junior Emily Mathis were able to win their doubles match on Saturday … the doubles win was fourth this season for the duo that was formed midway through the season … Cardenas leads the team in singles wins with nine this season.

The Mountaineers travel to Cherry Hill, N.J. this weekend to compete at the Knecht Cup Regatta. Racing takes place on the Cooper River on Saturday, April 14 and Sunday, April 15.

The Mountaineers (21-5, 12-1 EAGL) scored 195.9 and finished in fifth place at the 2012 Auburn NCAA Regional Championships … WVU finished fourth on each event and scored 49.2 on vault, 48.925 on bars, 48.825 on beam and 48.95 on floor … sophomore Hope Sloanhoffer scored 39.325 and finished tied for sixth in the all-around … she missed qualifying for the national championships by 0.025 … Sloanhoffer also finished tied for third place on beam with a 9.85 … her mark was the meet’s top score until the last two gymnasts of the night scored 9.875 and 9.925, respectively … she also led the team on floor with a 9.825 … junior Kaylyn Millick eared a career-best 39.225 and finished 10th … she paced the team on bars with a fifth place, 9.85 score … the mark was the second-best of the meet … she also scored a career-high 9.825 on vault … classmate Alaska Richardson paced the team on vault with an eighth place, season-high 9.875 score.
